 
How Koobies Coffee came to be!
Years ago, Steve and Roxanne Jakubiak, owners of Koobie’s Coffee, set their sights on opening a family business. They wanted to provide a little extra for their family of course, but also leave a legacy to their children. After studying many markets, while meeting in various café’s daily for tea and coffee, there was one that always stood out. COFFEE! They love the stuff.
While starting a business was only a dream, other matters took precedence. Steve had a stable job that provided for the family, but he did not want to risk the welfare of his three children or their means for an education. Starting a business was just not practical and too risky at this stage of life. It would not be until his oldest daughter Heather turned sixteen (several years later), that this dream would become a reality.
As was the case during every family car ride, discussion about a family business always became the main topic of discussion. It wasn’t until one day, on a clear August evening in 2001, while driving home from an evening out, that gave the push needed to do what he always wanted to do.
Steve’s oldest daughter Heather had been working at a local grocery store for just over a year. During her time there all her co-workers tried to come up with a nickname for her. Unfortunately there were not a lot of abbreviated names for HEATHER; it was almost impossible to fit her with a nickname, or so we thought. When Heather came home that day she was ecstatic. Someone had actually come up with a name that stuck! It just rolled off the tongue with the greatest of ease. That name was: KOOBIE, an abbreviation of her last name (ja.koo.be.ak).
So now during the car ride home, the topic of discussion became “what would we name our family business”. Proud of her new found nickname, Heather blurted out “How bout KOOBIE’S?” Silence filled the car for a brief moment, then Steve said “yeah, KOOBIE’S COFFEE”. From that moment on Koobie’s Coffee was in the works.
